So – you’ve got your lovely bell tent and you want to get it pitched in the perfect spot – what do you need to do?

An ideal location is somewhere flat, solid and on short grass. Best to find somewhere that drains well too.

When pitching we advise avoiding going under a tree or in a woodland. Wet leaves on the tent can cause discolouration, debris falling can damage the canvas, being in a shady area means damp moist conditions – mould and mildew love that! Also, trees = birds and birds = poop! Nobody wants that on their beautiful clean bell tent now do they!

Other things to consider are wind direction – ideally have the back of the tent to the wind rather than pitching towards it. Uneven ground means an uneven tent. Once you’ve got your perfect spot just clear the ground of stoves etc – nobody wants to step on a lump in the groundsheet! One other thing to consider - you do need space to pitch, at least 1 - 1.5m all the way round the tent for the guy ropes to be pulled taught - so just make sure you are pitching somewhere with the room needed. Nobody wants a squished tent in a small pitch

If you get to a site and aren’t sure where to go – speak to the campsite owner – they’ll know all the best places to pitch!
